Field Notes

Description:

Reddish tan colour. Abdomen 4cm long. Thorax 1cm. Head 1cm. Pincers.50cm. Antennae 6cm. A BIG beetle

Habitat:

Host plants - Bamboo, cassava & sugarcane. the landlady is growing cassava in the garden so perhaps that is the attraction.

Notes:

Image 1 - First spotted this beetle last evening bashing against the insect screen so went and took some photos.
Images 2,3 & 4 - This morning I found it floating upside down in water. Removed it and took some photos.
Image 5 - Popped the beetle in the top of a potted flower pot to show my husband and it miraculously came back to life and disappeared into the weeds on top of the pot to hide from predators.

Exactly Argy!! Just been outside to measure all the bits just as a matter of interest ........... not very accommodating!
All legs and long things. Fabulous. I like pic 2 - it portays the gangliness perfectly.
