Description:
This 1 mm Ladybug looked more like a scale insect until it started to move. It is shiny black, almost completely spherical with a fine fringe of hairs that are only visible under magnification. When walking, a tiny piece of the orange abdomen sticks out behind (5th picture). the underside of the head, antennae, legs and abdomen are orange. Family Coccinellidae.
Habitat:
Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.
Notes:
This looks very much like a species recently described for Paraguay: Zenoria revistita. http://www.coccinellidae.cl/paginasWebPar/Paginas/InicioPar.php.
