Field Notes

Description:

Large Reduviid of about 25mm body length. Brown in colour, towards yellow on the head, and darker on thorax and leg bands; Abdomen is convex and wings are translucent with a triangular brown patch. The slender elongated head has a distinct 'neck' and long elbowed antennae, and a strong rostrum with which to pierce the victims shell, in this case a Green Jewel Bug (Lampromicra senator). However, the bug goes for the soft parts between the body segments (picture #3).

Habitat:

Found among foliage on the banks of the Norman River. Clusters of the Green Jewel Bug were on the leaves and the bug was hunting them.
