Field Notes

Description:

It is a land planarian or FLATWORM The common name for this one is "hammer-headed worm." They have amazing regenerative abilities - you could slice them in a hundred pieces each one growing into a complete new animal. A great anatomy lesson too because they have no respiratory, circulatory or excretory systems. We see a lot after a rain. It is no friend! It is an invasive scavenger and eats our beloved earthworms.

Habitat:

wet schoolyard
