Field Notes

Description:

Small palearctic wader, less than 15cm in size, with brown-grey coat and whitish, slightly streaked underparts and fine short bill.

Habitat:

Palearctic wader, common in Africa, wintering. Seen on shores of soda lake in central Kenya. Observed during four to five days of my stay on shores, in loosely congregated groups of various waders, gulls and cormorants.

Notes:

Other birds observed in this flocks were Common, Green, Wood and Marsh Sandpipers, greenshanks, Ruffs and stilts, as well as some smaller plovers (Common, Kittlitz, Three-banded plover - the later in Photo No 5)
