I'll try to get some fresh images today. I think it is the side view pattern that is distinctive and rarely seen on web images. Leptocorisa varicornis is close, but I agree, no cigar :) Dave
Could be a Homoeocerus sp. like this one - http://www.ccs-hk.org/DM/butterfly/Bugs/Hemiptera/Homoeocerus-striicornis.html.
Yeah you're right, this is Hemiptera.. But I don't think this is a rice beetle..
I have photographed lots of these and cannot believe that they are difficult to ID, but I found nothing other than close to rice beetle. DAve
