Field Notes

Description:

Hairy, orange, very small (approximately 3 mm). Pretty variable in its coloration.

Habitat:

Palearctic distribution: Europe, North Africa, Westasia, Russia to Siberia. Lives on Silene, Lychnis, Dianthus, Medicago and Trifolium and other plants. Can become a pest occasionally in various cultivations. Prefers dry meadows, ruderal sites, dry slopes and fallow vineyards.
