Field Notes

Description:

Pretty pinkish purple stalkless tubular flowers tightly arranged on leafy spikes. The plant was about a metre tall. Leaves were lance-shaped and arranged in pairs on erect stems.

Habitat:

Wetlands

Notes:

These pretty flowers provide nectar for butterflies. The plant is also a food source for caterpillars.
The plants were bordering a board walk in the wetlands and looked really attractive against the tall rushes.

Family: Lythraceae
