Field Notes

Description:

The endangered Blackbird species found mostly in California. Most Red-winged Blackbirds the males have red shoulders or red with a yellow border. This species has red, yellow and white on the shoulders. The red and yellow is not as noticible when perched. These were sharing the breeding colony with nearby Red-winged Blackbirds.

Habitat:

Most colonies are found in working fields. This colony is found on pond on private property. The pond is outlined with reeds where they build their nests.
