Description:

Yucca I saw in bloom and fruiting at Torrey Pines State Reserve.

Notes:

From Wikipedia: "The fibers of the Yucca schidigera leaves were used by Native Americans to make rope, sandals, and cloth. The flowers and fruit could be eaten and the black seeds were ground into a flour. The roots were used to make soap."

Thanks Max Brodie; I did join and add this to the Flowering Cacti & Succulent mission.
Awesome spot Ava, please consider adding this to the Flowering Cacti and Succulent mission http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/12079522
I'm so glad your docent friend was able to help! I haven't even heard of Y. schidigera. Time to look it up :)
Cindy, I've changed this to Yucca schidigera, which I think is correct. Who knew there were so many yuccas?
Thanks Cindy. I'll go with it for now. I've asked a friend who's a docent at TP, so I'll go with her id if it differs from yours.
