Field Notes

Description:

Unusual caterpillar. Approx. 4 cms in length. Hairy with spikes, but also strange toothbrush-like clumps. Looks like a cross between a White Cedar caterpillar and some sort of Tussock caterpillar. Any suggestions?

Habitat:

Spotted by a running creek at Upper Flagstone. It had been feeding on the plant (photo #5) which looked a bit like watercress.

Species ID Suggestions

Tussock moth caterpillar

Trichiocercus sp.

Thank you. I still can't get an exact ID, and I reckon I've looked at thousands of images over time but nothing seems to match exactly.
