Field Notes

Description:

This pale slightly pinkish mushroom was about 45mm wide. The cap had a dark centre and patches of deep pink. Gills were adnate and close. Stipe tall and tinted with a ring which flared upwards.
The base of the stipe appeared sheathed with white mycelia. Dark stains between gills could have been spores.

Habitat:

Growing on damp forest floor - tall eucalyptus forest.

Notes:

My thanks to gully.moy for identifying the genus.
general characteristics appears to match a specimen in a blog - Lepiota americana but this species is probably not seen in Australia.

Thanks for looking a this and for your direction, gully.moy. Looks like a lengthy list but will go through it..
Perhaps look into some of the less scaly Lepiotoids from Australasia. http://www.mushroomexpert.com/lepiotoid_clade.html
