Description:
This is a common Old World bird of prey, small sized for raptors but medium sized for falcons - about 35cm in length, and mainly brownish. It is easily recognized from afar by its characteristic stationary flight when hunting... That is actually how I spotted it today. Presented here probably a female (I'm not sure if it could be a young bird too), mainly brown with darker-brown barred coat, and brownish and streaked head.

Habitat:
Common raptor in Jura mountain range and Geneva lake valley. Here, observed alternatively preying (stationary flight) and perching (pics) in one of the larger parks (half forested, half grassland) in Geneva lake valley.
