Field Notes

Description:

Flower's petal base have yellow, violet green patterns like a starburst or fireworks of colors. So dainty and pretty. Six petals but only 3 carries the colorful patterns.
It is called as "Himeshaga" (ヒメシャガ), In Japanese, when a plant is named Hime (ヒメ), it means small. In this case, the Fringed Iris is named so because it looks like a smaller version of Shaga (シャガ), the Japanese Iris in English, only 30cm and blooms in May and June.

Thank you. Good luck with more spottings from Japan. :)
Still it was nice of you to check again my posting and to re-discover a caterpillar bonus shot. Appreciate it.
Ha ha haa, lisa2. Don't worry. We are on the same boat. I missed it the first time around...was focussing on the flower :)
I need new eyeglasses since I missed that :(
Yes, I do so believe its a caterpillar at the center. What sharp eyes you have. Thanks.
Oh! and there is a jade-coloured caterpillar too. A bonus. :)
