Field Notes

Description:

Medium sized weaver, some 14 cm in length. Male bright yellow, with yellow-green coat, striped black and yellow on top of wing covers. Distinguished signs are chestnut (not black) crown extending only on front, around the eyes and throat; red eye. Female and non-breeding male non-descript, duller, with dark eyes.

Habitat:

Colonial breeder, in dry acacia savannah. Endemic to NE Africa, in particular Sudan and Ethiopia.
