Thank you for the explanation Todd & thanks for your comment Jemma!
what an adorable and spectacular moth!!!!
Whoever he was, he clearly wasn't a fan!
I wonder who is responsible for the name of this one.
Maybe we should canvass the scientific community to change its name - Zale spectacularis sounds much more appropriate!
Such a spectacular Zale! I'm still waiting for this one at my lights!
I'm always amazed by your knowledge Dominik - especially as most of the leps you ID are far from home for you!
Yes, I checked some of the Larentiinae and did not found a reasonable match, but had then to leave. Amazing similarity with Larentiinae. But I was a little bit sceptic, that's why I did not make an "official" suggestion and put ?? In my comment ;-)...
What were they thinking! No wonder moths get such bad press!
I've found it bayucca! I was looking geometers too but it is actually an owlet! Such a awful name for a pretty moth too!
Geometridae, Larentiinae??
Thanks Lauren! I was very happy to find such a distinctive one after weeks of small drab brown moths!
Very beautiful moth! It looks like one of those 1950's Poodle Skirts (just needs a poodle)!
