Field Notes

Description:

I tracked down this treefrog by following the very loud call he was making. He had situated himself inside a deep hole about 10 feet up in a tree trunk, which made his voice particularly loud. I had to stand on a bucket and reach as high as I could (through a bunch of very spiky vines) to blindly take these shots with my camera phone. So that's my excuse for the shots not being that great! :-) The Cope's gray treefrog looks identical to the gray treefrog, but they are separate species. They can be differentiated based on their calls. You can see from the picture that they have excellent camouflage.
