That like a branch, not a trunk....I will try to mach the crust.

I am so not sure cause is was completely decomposed but the forest predominately consists of forest oak, elm, wild cherry, maple, beech and linden. I would say that it wasn't oak....sorry, but I haven't some better information.

Perhaps you know the species of tree it is growing on?

I think the 1st one is more likely, 1st of all it looks the more similar to my spotting and 2nd is often found around while for the others I'm not sure, would have to find an expert to ask about its frequency.

It's a crust fungus. Here are some possibilities for you to look at: Datronia mollis Schizopora paradoxa Various Antrodia species There may be more look-alikes, I have no idea how to tell them apart.
