Description:
This is the broad-billed tody, or kolobri, seen in lower elevations in Haiti. It was in a tree outside my house.
Habitat:
In tree next to my house in a rural village in central Haiti. If you are really looking you can probably see at least one everyday in the small wooded area my hosts have retained on their land. I also see them in the scrubby trees along the roads.
Notes:
The narrow-billed tody (Todus angustirostris) lives at higher elevations. I haven't seen one of those yet. Both are endemic to the island of Hispaniola. There is a children's song featuring this bird. Everyone seems to know it so we sing it in my ecology programs which focus on protecting the birds of Haiti.
