Sus scrofa
38.7053, -122.762
Field Notes
Description:
These are considered Feral Pigs. Unknown generation from domestic or from Russian Boar.
Both parents are dark gray/black mottled. One of the piglets was also gray mottled. At least 3 were this chestnut color.
Similar to domestic, these feral pigs have evolved to hunt a variety of small animals as well as foraging for roots. In the process they dig up land and destroy properties. Very few predators that can take down a full grown hog but the the piglets are easier but protected well by the parents.
Habitat:
These were crossing a road from grassy slopes and fields.
