Field Notes

Description:

We often see white lerps of various shapes and sizes on eucalyptus leaves and I thought these were the same. On close inspection they turn out to be the exuviae of some kind of hopper nymph. They must have all moulted here and left, discarding their old clothes like kids.

Habitat:

Eucalyptus leaf in local parkland.

Notes:

Yet to search or analyse these.

Species ID Suggestions

Comments (1)

I'm still getting my head around these critters. The white lerps are built by psyllids (jumping plant lice) buy many of them are free living like aphids and do not construct a lerp. Here is an exuvia of a psyllid (pic #3) but yours may still be hoppers. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/14257003/fullscreen
