Description:

This is the seed head of the oriental plane which prefers warm climates so survives well in mediterranean countries. the bark which you can see in photo 3 is often used in decorative furniture and sometimes referred to as lacewood due to its delicate patterning. The leaves are quite large and maple like too so can be easily confused.

Habitat:

seen near las salinas wetlands in Calpe, Spain.
