Field Notes

Description:

These two small birds were hopping between the stones catching insects on the wing, they were busy for ages and often just rested on the stones waiting for the next victim to pass by. The grey wagtail is slightly smaller than the yellow and is listed as an 'amber species' by the RSPB (royal society for the protection of birds) due to harsh winters and a decline in species. They are UK residents and breed her in the summer too.

Habitat:

seen on the river Don in Sheffield which is part of the five weirs walk alongside all the waterways once used for making steel.
