Ring-billed gulls of different ages feeding at the edge of a large man-made lake. They arrived in big groups, raucous and loud, stayed awhile, then left in big groups. Every 15 minutes or so, a new group would arrive ...

Field guides are better than any website in my opinion! I personally love my Nat Geo guide, but everyone loves different ones :)
Thanks, Ashley, that's a good resource. And my local bookstore doesn't have a wide selection, but I was able to pick up a Peterson guide for North American birds ... that's been really nice to have.

Question for more experienced bird spotters. It seems clear there are birds of different ages in this series, but I'm not sure in some cases whether I'm looking at juvenile plumage or non-breeding plumage. Still reading ... !
