Field Notes

Description:

The larvae of the Giant Leopard Moth, also called the Eyed Tiger Moth. This caterpillar, in the 'woolly bear' category for it's many black bristles, is supposedly not a stinging one, but I didn't touch it to find out!

Habitat:

It was roaming across our yard in late fall in the leaf cover beneath deciduous growth in late autumn. It made its way across a rug and down into the yard with much haste and whimsy.
