Field Notes

Description:

About 15 to 20 cm long, red-brownish stick insect.

Habitat:

Found on a rocky beach on edges of a Mediterranean (protected) pine forest, close to small urban center. Reportedly very common in Balkans, along the Dalmatian coast.

Notes:

I just discovered that Balkans also have some well-camouflaged stick insects, thanks to my son who saw and photographed this beauty on the beach - all pics are his, and this insect caused quite a stir (and a long queue to take a pic) on that (otherwise very calm) beach.
