Field Notes

Description:

This crab spider was about 3 or 4 mm long. It was uniformly brown and the dorsal side of its triangular abdomen showed dark depressions.
I watched as the spider worked its way back and forth the edges of a furled leaf, pulling strands of silk across.

Habitat:

Spotted on a young eucalyptus tree

Notes:

These spiders live in these retreats made of folded leaves.

Family: Thomisidae
