Description:
The Eastern Garter Snake is a common, non-poisonous snake. The average length of the Eastern garter snake adult is 20 -28" (50.8-71.1 cm) They have 3 stripes, most have yellow stripes on a dark body, but coloration can vary. The bluish green coloration with checkerboard pattern is found most often in southern Georgia and Florida. The belly of the garter snake is white or light yellow. The males have longer, thicker tails than the females.
Habitat:
Garter snakes are found in a variety of habitats, including meadows, marshes, woodlands and suburban yards. They are also found at a variety of altitudes, from sea-level to mountains.
Notes:
They are viviparous (give birth to live young) and can give birth to more than 50 babies at one birthing.
