Description:

This was also found in the marine life conservation area. Even though it looks like a dead Bat Ray which has lost it's stinger, i am including it in my collection for personal education. i am a total novice in this field and seeing something new is so exciting.Will replace with an Alive picture when I find one!

Habitat:

pacific ocean ,longbeach ,california

Updated Jellis. I am glad i put it up here for ID. My first reaction was that it was a baby sting ray and I was stuck to that notion for a while!!! How easy it is to assume things!!

I agree with the body and tail shape that this is a Starry flounder Platichthys stellatus

Thank so much for this feedback Neil. I was stuck on the idea that it was a sting ray of some sort. http://www.afsc.noaa.gov/kodiak/photo/fishstarry.htm Platichthys stellatus,seems to be a good guess.

Definitely a flatfish species, and most likely a flounder of some sort. Eopsetta jordani would be my first guess. Or perhaps even Platichthys stellatus, but i can see any of its distinctive markings. https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/Fishing/Ocean/Fish-ID/Sportfish/Flatfishes
