Mallard Duck
Anas platyrhynchos
41.63, -70.99
Field Notes
Description:
I believe this is a male of the species. It had a beautiful green and shiny head, with spots of grey on his stomach and wing. When it exposed its wings, the inner feathers had a glossy and reflective hue.
Habitat:
Found near the streams coming from the pipes on campus grounds.
Notes:
The male was really beautiful, and the female accompanying it was quite plain looking. Sadly I didn't get to take a picture of the female. She was scared off, meanwhile the male was content with my presence.
