Field Notes

Mostly black in colour, with an arc of creamy-white spots on the forewings and large creamy-white spots on the hind wings that can be seen in flight. A single red spot on each forewing.
Approx. 10 - 12 cm wingspan

Habitat:

Forest.
Prefer citrus orchards.

Notes:

Spotted on Yuggera/Turrbal Country while out walking in the Seven Hills Bushland Reserve (4170), Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

This fella was quite big and swift! I asked him nicely if I could please get a photo and he kindly obliged, landing close enough to me to get a good look, but I had to be quick because he was busy and had to get going before sun down.

The photos capture a combination of him flying, landing and at rest.
