Field Notes

Description:

Male has a black to purple head, bill that white with a gray mid-bill color and black tip. Breast is black , light gray sides and white markings on the forward side of the breast. Female is brown with a white eye-ring, dark bill that has a white ring marking near the tip of the bill. These birds are smaller than a Mallard.

Habitat:

Lakes, rivers and ponds near woodlands
