Description:

Small to medium-sized bees, usually black or brownish, a few have metallic greenish or bluish highlights.

Habitat:

On coltsfoot, edge of trail through mixed woods.

I don't think this is an Halictid bee, it looks more like a Small Carpenter bee (Ceratina sp.)
