Description:

An extraordinarily large bag/case of a bagworm/casemoth larva, of the moth family Psychidae. The caterpillar's head is clearly visible in the first photo. Larval cases of various species come in a diversity of sizes and shapes. See http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_moths/PSYCHIDAE.htm

Habitat:

Spotted on the side of a house situated in a large semi-urban yard and garden, next to a disturbed patch of remnant lowland forest, in the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.
