Field Notes

Description:

about 1"

Habitat:

rainforest, 1400m

Notes:

I was just about to photograph a sloth my guide showed me at Yotoco natural reserve when I spotted this huge hopper on a tree close by. I didn't know which to photograph first! I though the insect might fly away so I went to it first but in the end, they both stayed put for a long time, so there was no worries about missing either.

I'm sure it's a great book, I was just curious where you found it, thanks.
Fig. 127 of Thierry Porion's 1994 book: "Fulgoridae 1: Illustrated Catalogue of the American Fauna". Not the best way to ID species, but this one's wing patterns are fairly distinctive....
Thanks for the suggestion Jason. How did you find the ID? Do you have a link to any photos? I don't see anything online. Thanks ceherzog and injica.
Great pics! I've suggested an ID - Amantia combusta. I'm pretty sure...the wing pattern looks right....
Thanks for the comments everyone. I've updated it just to the family for now.
Fulgoridae planthopper, I would say.
Wonderful find! Looks like Colombians like to paint their tree trunks white like in Mexico. Ugh. :-(
