Field Notes

Description:

I love the name 'Lawyer's Wig', as this is the name that's widely used for this type of mushroom. Approx. 12-15cms in height. Pale caps but dark, fine gills. Stipes smooth and white, but no skirts that I could see. With age, caps darken, flatten and split. 6 specimens found in area 1m.squ. No signs of feeding on caps.

Habitat:

This spotting was at Ravensbourne National Park, at an elevation above 500 mtrs. Dense foliage and canopy, mostly native trees that I could see. Lots of eucalypt leaf litter and quite damp due to recent rains or thick mist. Soft, filtered light. Mushrooms on soil amongst litter.

Many thanks. I've been scratching my head with this one. I'll certainly check out your suggestions.
This is definitely a Coprinellus sp. I suspect it's C. Domesticus but I can't rule out C. Truncorum, as these are similar.
Neil There is a superb website. http://mushroomobserver.org You can upload you fungi pics. And there are many experts who will come up with answers.
So sorry. I thought agaric simply meant it had gills. My mistake.
I'm having a hard time believing this is Agaricus.Looks more like Coprinus.
