Field Notes

Description:

Orange, translucent ladybug with black pronotum and head. There are white "cheeks" on the pronotum and a white upside down "Y" between the eyes. This ladybug just emerged from the pupa in the background and is drying its wings. When the drying is complete, the black spots will show on the elytra.

Habitat:

Lantana in the backyard

Notes:

This species goes by many names! Since this one was all orange, I chose Pumpkin but the other common names are: Multicoloured (multicolored), multivariate, southern, Japanese, Asian, Halloween, and harlequin Ladybug, Ladybird or Lady Beetle.
