Field Notes

Description:

Very vibrant yellow with black "almost" symmetrical pattern, reddish-brown small wings. About 15mm big.

Habitat:

Eurasia, New Zealand and Australia. You can find them in abandoned animal "shelters" or anyplace that has a hole (like wall or rock cavity etc.).

Notes:

When bitten it can really hurt-was attacked by a few of them few years ago and got really bad swallowing from them. Although they all spoke of them as "bad" animals opposed to good working bees, I always found their appearance quite appealing. This one was really cooperative, posing for me :)
