Field Notes
Description:
A large mushroom, perhaps an old specimen (pictures 1-4). When it's damaged it exudes a white latex-like material. Yellow stipe. There's a spongy brown, porous underside to the cap, which is infested with tiny yellow maggots/larvae. The last two shots show the lighter colored, presumably younger mushrooms, which sometimes grow in groups.
Habitat:
Forest in light shade. Substrate is detritus/leaf matter.
Notes:
Definitely Boletaceae. Possibly Baorangia bicolor,Neoboletus, a Boletus species (rubropunctus?), or Xerocomus tenax.
