Field Notes

Description:

large bush cricket. My memory of exact size is unclear but think total body length from head to tip of wings between 6 and 8 cm.

Habitat:

unknown - found on wall of hotel (Hosteria Pantavi near Ibarra, Ecuador)

Notes:

If it is Neoconocephalus triops, it's common name is broad-tipped conehead katydid

Not confirming 100%, but with Neoconocephalus cf. triops we are at the safe side, I think. http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/MISC/Neoconocephalus_triops.htm

That's really helpful. Have now done a bit more research and the closest match seems to be Neoconocephalus triops. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Tettigoniidae, not really sure if a Conocephalinae. Do you have a larger picture of the head, best from top or the side or can you make a crop?
