Description:

A perky and brave woodpecker in mixed forests of North America, Picoides pubescens, the Downy Woodpecker, is characterized by its small size. Females lack a red cap. Picoides pubescens is nearly identical to its larger cousin, Picoides villosus.

Habitat:

Mixed forests near swamp.
