Barn swallow
Hirundo rustica
38.714, -0.0306195
Field Notes
Description:
These swallows were diving over an old abandoned pool where I assume there would be alot of insects and possible mosquito larvae on the stagnant pool water. The villa was unfortunately on the other side of a lowwire fence so it wasnt possible to get any nearer. It is a distinctive passerine bird with blue upperparts, a long, deeply forked tail and curved, pointed wings.
Habitat:
seen at an unused villa where the pool had gone stagnant, the villa is at the side of a river in the Jalon valley which is designated as an ecopark for its flora and fauna.
Notes:
there were a few dozen swallows all at this location and also on the river in the same location.
