Field Notes

Description:

These swallows were diving over an old abandoned pool where I assume there would be alot of insects and possible mosquito larvae on the stagnant pool water. The villa was unfortunately on the other side of a lowwire fence so it wasnt possible to get any nearer. It is a distinctive passerine bird with blue upperparts, a long, deeply forked tail and curved, pointed wings.

Habitat:

seen at an unused villa where the pool had gone stagnant, the villa is at the side of a river in the Jalon valley which is designated as an ecopark for its flora and fauna.

Notes:

there were a few dozen swallows all at this location and also on the river in the same location.

Thanks once again Malcolm, I have another one to upload where you can see its characteristic red forehead and chin, it was still in the Jalon valley though.
Debbie, these are indeed Barn Swallows but we also have Red-rumped Swallows here, some of which are permanent residents!
