Field Notes

Description:

This butterfly is found in Oriental region such as; south-east Asia from Sri Lanka, India to the Fiji, including the Philippines, and in Australian regions.

Male - It has an orange upper surface with the forewing being outlined with a broad black band and tornus bearing a small black spot. The underside is brown with stripes and the tornus bearing a black spot.

Female - It has a purple upper surface with both wings being outlined with shaded black and tornus bearing a small black spot. The underside is similar as the male but lighter in color.

Habitat:

came to my room in a rainy night

Notes:

It is found abundant at times, in lower elevations up to 1000m and becomes rare above it.

The larvae feed on fruits such as, Punica granatum of family Punicaceae.
