Field Notes

Description:

A threatened species of cormorant that is endemic to the Persian Gulf. The adult socotra is completely black (including legs and feet) while the juveniles have lighter plumage on the front.

Habitat:

Seen at the Sealine beach resort.

Notes:

These birds are highly gregarious, and can be seen in flocks of 100 000s at a time. The reason they are considered vulnerable is loss of habitat. They are also extremely vulnerable to oil spills.
