Field Notes

Description:

I found this mature male and happened to catch him vocalizing and displaying. They display by partially extending out their wings in order to show the red on the shoulders and also fan their tails simultaneously.

Habitat:

Protected area with deciduous forest and two large ponds. Cleveland Metroparks System, North Chagrin Reservation, Mayfield, Ohio Cuyahoga County USA

Notes:

I absolutely love these birds! I love hearing their vocalizations. The red on their shoulders is brilliant especially against the deep black base coloring.
