Field Notes

Description:

Lifer :) Green to brown background color with green spots all over the back. This ditch had several dozen calling and they weren't shy!

Habitat:

Roadside ditch in thorn scrub area.

Notes:

We had been hearing choruses of these guys for several days, but it had been really cold so there weren't many calling. Every time we'd try for them, we'd spend about an hour and they would just stop calling. When we drove by this time, we decided we would try for just 5 minutes before moving on. I just walked right up to the ditch and in about 5 seconds found one. I took it back to show everyone, and they decided he wasn't spotted enough and wanted another one. So I walked back to the ditch and caught another in about 5 seconds again. Since I don't get the opportunity to photograph calling frogs often, I decided to use this opportunity since they weren't stopping despite me blinding them with my head lamp :)
