Common buzzard
Buteo buteo
46.3585, 6.15509
Field Notes
Description:
Medium sized raptor, about 50cm in length, and extremely variable in appearances - to the point that its french name is 'Variable Buzzard'... Most of those I observed in our areas are with brown back and head, whitish and brown spotted neck and belly, while the chest is strippped brown and white. Legs are yellow, flanks and the tail are barred whitish - brown.
Habitat:
Very common and often seen in our area, in Jura mountains and the plain around lac Leman, between Jura range and Alps. Very often seen sitting on telephone poles and traffic signs around the roads. Also seen around villages neighboring Geneva.
