Field Notes

Description:

First two views are the Swiftlets on their nests while the next two views are a wider view of the same area.
Picture 5 shows an area deep inside the cave where there are more black nests but the white droppings on the right indicate that much higher up are the Edible-nest Swiftlets, whose nests are white and very expensive. We could not go closer on this visit, though we probably saw the Swiftlets flying in and out I got no photos of them.
There are also Mossy-nest Swiftlets nesting here but I have not found any in the photos yet, many of which are blurred due to the lack of light. We probably saw these also but no evidence. Their nests are mossy green-brown with golden flecks around the top.
The last picture shows the cave entrance, much bigger than it appears, the roof being 40-60 metres high.

Habitat:

Large cave in Equatorial lowland rainforest.
