Field Notes

Description:

Flowers from a perennial vine. I love the passion flowers petals and prominent styles and stamens, just unlike anything else in the southeastern coastal plain.

Habitat:

These beauties were spotted on a plot of land where my family and I planted longleaf pine trees (Pinus palustris) about 5 years ago. First time I have seen them growing here! This plant in general need relatively open areas, as they require at least a half day’s worth of direct sunlight.

Notes:

The flowers and fruits provide great wildlife value for bees, butterflies, birds and other animals.
