King Vulture

Housed in the Belize zoo. The Belize zoo was founded in 1983 as a collection of animals used in the making of a documentary of rainforest creatures. It features only species native to Belize, most of which are rescues. Enclosures, though not state of the art, are spacious and well planted. It is a huge challenge to photograph the species housed there without getting pictures of the chicken wire and heavy welded wire(for larger, more destructive species) in the way. Strolling through the zoo on a hot summer afternoon, listening to the calls of the various animals, one realizes the richness of Belize and the Yucatan.
